Who I work with

Active-duty servicemembers · Veterans · Military spouses and adult family members · Adults seeking care through TRICARE, TriWest, or the VA Community Care Network

What I treat

Post-traumatic stress and combat trauma. Intrusive memories, hypervigilance, avoidance, the sense that part of you never came back.

Depression. Loss of interest, low energy, the flatness that follows separation from service or from a unit.

Anxiety, anger, and stress. Including anger that has begun to cost you something at home or at work.

Deployment and reintegration. Coming home to a household that reorganized itself while you were gone, and to a version of yourself you do not entirely recognize.

Relationship and family strain. Communication that stopped working, distance that grew without a specific cause.

Sleep problems and chronic pain. Both make everything else harder, and both are treatable in their own right.

Grief and life transitions. Including the transition out of service.

How I treat it

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) — a brief protocol for distressing memories, related to EMDR, without extended verbal retelling
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Prolonged Exposure, where indicated and when you choose it
  • Emotionally Focused and psychodynamic approaches for relationship work
  • Mindfulness-based and somatic approaches for the physiological side of stress
  • Motivational Interviewing, when the first question is whether to change at all

Format

Sessions are 50 minutes. In person at the La Mesa office by appointment, or by secure video anywhere in California.
